DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for the timely and accurate input of truck dispatch requirements, via use of patterns, Delivery Orders or other inputs, in order to secure on time delivery of laden and/or empty equipment to meet the needs of internal and external customers. Within the scope of this roll, the Transportation Clerk will interact with customers and/or warehouses to schedule appointments expedite door equipment and manage other special customer handling requirements. Position will also follow up with truck transportation providers to monitor on time deliveries and non-recurring accessorial events.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure on time delivery of store door loads for commercial and government accounts.

  • Ensure on time delivery of empty equipment per the request of internal equipment management.

  • Identify all moves with dray requirements via the use of system reports and/or other system tools.

  • Timely application of patterns / delivery orders (DO’s) /other delivery information necessary for the execution of truck transportation moves.

  • Proper assignment to dray requests of approved carriers, rates and pre-approved accessorial charges.

  • Direct customer contact for the purpose of scheduling delivery appointments and/or expediting equipment.

  • Direct carrier contact for the purpose of follow up to ensure successful on-time delivery and confirmation of non-recurring accessorial charges.

  • Daily management of customer special handling requirements as needed.

  • Capture customer dissatisfaction; this includes taking ownership and resolving if appropriate.

  • Identify problems that come up during customer interaction and bring them to resolution per defined processes.

  • Identify data and service integrity issues and take action to resolve.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • 2+ years general business experience in an office environment required.

  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with internal and external customers and vendors.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must have flexibility to work any shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • For Internal candidates: Minimum two years’ work relevant transportation experience (including 6 months experience involving direct supplier interaction) combining any three of the following areas:

Trucking

Equipment

Operations

Service Delivery

(A minimum six months experience is required in each area)

Must demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge in each area.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework preferred.

  • Prior experience with an international company preferred.

  • Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.

  • Experience coordinating the flow and movement of cargo highly desirable.
