MORGAN COUNTY Bridge Crewman (Non- CDL) in Fort Morgan, Colorado

JOB TITLE: Bridge Crewman

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass security and driving background checks.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions as given.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English well.
  • Experience operating class 8 trucks
  • Experience operating other medium and heavy duty equipment.
  • Must complete Emergency Management Institutes NIMS Courses IS-700 & IS-100 within 6 months of hire.

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. - Safe and responsible operation of County equipment for the efficient completion of assigned tasks including but not limited to excavators, backhoe loaders and skid steers. - Proper and timely maintenance of County equipment as instructed. This includes reporting problems that need to be corrected by another department. Safe and responsible operation of welding equipment to facilitate rapid, efficient, and exact completion of assigned welding task. - Maintenance and care of welding equipment including but not limited to: oil changes, changing filters, and minor mechanical work to maintain welder in top condition. - Safe and responsible operation of all county vehicles including but not limited to: pick-up trucks, or any other County vehicle as instructed. - Any physical labor as required including but not limited to: Pile driving, shovel work, operating heavy equipment, welding, setting forms, pouring concrete or any other duties as assigned. - Installation and maintenance of County culverts as assigned. - Removal of overhanging trees and debris as instructed. - Ability to learn and understand blueprints and/or surveying equipment. - Operates pickups and other light and medium duty equipment such as front end loaders. - Operates as trainer for heavy duty road maintenance equipment. - Operates gas and electric chain saws, jack hammers, etc. - Uses shovels, picks, rakes, hoes, sledge hammers, and other hand tools. - Operates other small equipment. - Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Must be able to reach and sustain optimum safety and productivity, as well as maintaining a positive attitude for co-workers and supervisory personnel. - Must have the ability to test for and receive any advanced licenses required to operate any County equipment. - Must have the ability to take instruction and complete tasks as instructed without constant supervision. Must be able to use constructive criticism to improve performance. - Must maintain an excellent record of attendance and punctuality. - Must have the ability to operate, or learn to operate, heavy equipment, and learn welding skills and techniques required for position - Ability to perform demanding physical labor. - Ability tow perform duties in inclement weather conditions. (heat, cold, etc.) - Ability to communicate and get along well with people.
