Summary
This position will serve as a Research Lab Technician Associate supporting the ongoing translational knee injury studies in theanimal science laboratory (https://www.kines.umich.edu/research/labs-centers/comparative-orthopaedic-rehabilitation-laboratory) ofDr. Lindsey Lepley (https://www.kines.umich.edu/directory/lindsey-lepley) . The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with Dr. Lepley to execute and engage in activities to ensure steady experimental progress that leads to high quality data for publication. The successful candidate will be based at the School of Kinesiology in Ann Arbor, MI.
Responsibilities*
Management of rat colonies (30 % effort) which includes:
Maintenance of aseptic techniques for rat surgery and tissue collections
Performance of rodent behavior tests
Performance of basic histological procedures (40% effort) which includes:
Antibody validation
Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques
Utilization of brightfield, fluorescence and confocal microscopy for histological quantification
Maintain and order stocked supplies with records of working reagents
Work as part of a team, to collect, and interpret data (25% effort) which includes:
Communication (written and verbal) with team members to convey and discuss research results
Engagement in problem solving as required to solve technical problems
Other duties as assigned (5% effort)
Required Qualifications*
The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or Associate's degree and 1 year laboratory bench and/or animal research experience. Working under the direction of Dr. Lepley, this individual will assist in overseeing the lab's daily operations and be expected to help collect, analyze and process a variety of rodent-based laboratory procedures with minimal supervision (after a training period). Additional Information
This is a one-year term-limited position, with the potential for extension. The salary range is $33.5-37K, commensurate with education and experience. An offer may be extended outside the general salary range shared in this posting based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for this role.
